cheong-hoi-leongHoi Leong Cheong was born in Macau and began his piano studies at the age of four. He is now studying Piano Performance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Prof. Gabriel Kwok under a scholarship from the Academy. He is now a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Piano Performance and a fellowship diploma holder of the London Trinity College (FTCL) in Piano Performance.

Recently, Hoi Leong won the Felix Mendelssohn award in the ICoM Piano Award 2016 International Competition Hamburg Composers which was held in Germany. He has also garnered several prizes in piano competitions in Macao, Hong Kong and China, including 2nd Prize in the China Final of the 75th Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition which was held in Beijing, 1st Prize in the Piano Solo: Gold Medal Award of the 67th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, and several first prizes in different categories of the Macao Young Musicians Competition. To recognize his outstanding performance in the Macao Young Musicians Competition, he was awarded the “Most Talented Prize” by the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau three times. He has performed in the 30th Macao International Music Festival and several performances in Hong Kong, China and Germany.

Hoi Leong made his orchestral debut with the Macao Orchestra at the age of 9. He has also collaborated with other orchestras including the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and the Hong Kong St. Paul’s Co-educational College Alumni Orchestra.
