Sunmin Kim was born in South Korea. He started playing the piano at age 10. He enrolled in the Yewon Arts School in 2014 and has now graduated and enrolled in the Seoul Arts High School.

He has won many national student competitions in South Korea, including the Ewha-Kyunghyang Concours (2016), the Korean Liszt Society Competition (2016), the Yewon Competition (2016), the Eumyoun Music Competition (2015), the International Piano Magazine Competition, the Youngchang Piano Competition (2015), and the Sungjung Music Competition (2015).  He also won international competitions including the Asia International Piano Academy and Festival & Competition, and the Korea-Asia Piano Open Competition.

Sunmin has performed in the Young Musicians Festival at Youngsan Art Hall.  He joined with  Sol Huh in a Joint Recital at TLi Art Center.  His solo recital performances have been presented at Yamaha Artist Service in Seoul, the Yewon School Chamber Concert at Yewon Art Hall, and at the International Piano Magazine Competition Winners Concert at DS Hall. He has also performed with a Seoul Ars Orchestra at the Poeun Art Hall.

Sunmin has participated in master classes with Jёno Jando, Attila Nemethy, Dai-uk Lee, and Chong-pil Lim. He had studied with Najung Kim, Namhee Lim, Joonsung Lee and is now studying with Kyung-ah Kim.
