Albert-Cano-Smit-spain

Born in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1996, Albert studied in the Montserrat Abbey School and the Chetham’s School of Music with Marta Karbownicka, Murray McLachlan, and Graham Caskie.

His first prize winnings include the Mazovia XIX International Chopin Festival in Poland, 2011, the RNCM Chopin Prize in 2013, the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Competition in 2014, and the International Piano Competition Eugenia Verdet in Barcelona, 2015.  He also won 2nd prize in the prestigious Manchester International Piano Concerto Competition in 2011, at the age of 14. At age 16, Albert was the winner of the Special Prize for the Best Spanish Pianist in the prestigious Ricard Viñes International Competition.

He has performed in a variety of venues including Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, the Enric Granados Auditorium in Lleida, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Kings College in Cambridge and Westminster Cathedral in London, Royce Hall (US), and Walt Disney Concert Hall (US). He has collaborated as a soloist with the Manchester Camerata, the Blackburn Symphony Orchestra, Nottingham Youth Orchestra and American Youth Symphony Orchestra. Other collaborations include performances with Andrej Bielow, the Casals Quartet, the Gerhard Quartet, Gary Hoffmann, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, in a 4-hand performance of the Schubert Fantasy.

Albert has had master classes with artists including Andrei Gavrilov, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Kevin Kenner, John Lill, Robert McDonald, Ilya Itin, Boris Berman, Fabio Bidini, Christian Blackshaw, Julian Martin and Paul Schenly.

Albert received full scholarships from The Juilliard School and the Colburn School where he is continuing his studies with Ory Shihor.
