All works must be performed from memory in the video audition files, as well as in all Rounds.

APPLICATION REPERTOIRE

VIDEO AUDITION FILES: solo performances only, a total of at least 25 minutes in length and must include at least three (3) contrasting styles, including:

  • the first movement of a classical sonata
  • at least two (2) other compositions reflecting contrasting styles and periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th or 21st Century) which demonstrate the applicant’s lyrical and technical capabilities.

Each of the pieces recorded on the uploaded video audition files may be performed one time during either Round I or II in accordance with the Competition Repertoire Rules.

COMPETITION REPERTOIRE

Each competitor will program the required repertoire in Rounds I and II at his/her discretion. 

In choosing repertoire, a work of each type listed below must be included at least once in either Round I or II.

  • (a) a Baroque piece (Bach or Scarlatti);
  • (b) a complete classical sonata by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, or Schubert;
  • (c) a Romantic piece; and
  • (d) a piece written in the Twentieth or Twenty-first Century.
  • The remaining time in each round will be filled with pieces chosen by the competitor.
  • The maximum time for each round must include time between movements and between compositions.
  • Failure to comply with the specific time limit for each round may result in a penalty by the Competition Jury.

 

ROUND I: Competitors will each perform a solo recital of repertoire of his/her own choosing, not to exceed 25 minutes.

ROUND II: Competitors will each perform a solo recital of repertoire of his/her own choosing, not to exceed 30 minutes.

ROUND III (Finals): Finalists will perform one work from the 2015 Concerto List below with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra:
