Born in Zhengzhou, China, Wenting Shi began studying the piano at the age of four, winning her first national competition the following year. Her early years were spent at schools affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She was a prizewinner at the Serge and Olga Koussevitzky Young Artist Awards Piano Competition (2018), the San Jose International Piano Competition (2016), the International Toronto Piano Competition (2015), the 12th International Piano Competition presented by the Frederic Chopin Foundation of Taipei (2008), and the 13th Bucharest International Piano Competition in Romania (2006).

Wenting received the honor of “Outstanding Pianist in Artistry” from the Shanghai Literature and Art Talent Fund Council in 2005. Recently she was the recipient of several scholarships including the Beatrice Ohanessian Memorial Scholarship, giving a concert featuring the music of the renowned American composer in New York in 2016.

Wenting has given solo concerts in the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, and China. She has performed in world-renowned venues including Alice Tully Hall in New York, Salle Gaveau in Paris, ORF RadioKulturhaus and Altes Rathaus in Vienna, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. She has played with numerous orchestras including the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra.

Wenting attended The Juilliard School where she studied under Yoheved Kaplinsky receiving a bachelor’s degree in 2015 and a master’s degree in 2017. She was honored with the Arthur Rubenstein Prize there. Currently she studies at the Yale School of Music with Boris Berman.
