Hang Zhong, a high school piano student at The Music School Affiliated with the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, began to study piano at the age of 4.  Since 2008, he has been studying with Professor WangYan, the Associate Dean of the Piano Department of the Conservatory.

In 2009, Hang participated in the 8th Excellent Student Artists Audition in Chengdu, and became the First Prize laureate.  In 2010, he won Third Prize in the 13th “Xinghai Cup” National Competition for Young Pianists.  In the same year, he was accepted to the piano program at The Music School.

One year later, he participated in the “Pearl River Kayserburg” National Youth Piano Competition and the 75th Steinway & Sons International Piano Competition China Audition, and won Fourth Place and Honorable Mention respectively.  In April 2012, he participated in the  “Golden Sunflower” Cup National Competition for Young Pianists organized by the China Merchants Bank, and won Third Place.  In the same year, he received Third Prize in the Second “Wenhua Award” National Competition for Young Pianists presented by the Ministry of Culture, Xiamen Municipality, and the Culture Department of Fujian Province.  In April 2014, he was the highest score winner in the conservatory’s étude competition.

Additionally, in 2012 Hang performed in the First International Piano Festival organized by the conservatory, and his performance of Chopin’s Étude No.2, Op.10 was highly commended as “good technique and musicality, especially sensitive ears” by the famous pianist Alexander Korsantia.
