Katherine Liu is a 9th grader living in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She has received top prizes in numerous regional and international piano competitions including the Grand Prix at both the Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford and the Soloists of New England Competition, first prizes at the Steinway & Sons Piano Competition and the Krystian Tkaczewski International Piano Competition in Poland, and third prize at the Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition.

Katherine has appeared at venues such as the CMA Theater in Nashville, Katzin Hall in Arizona, the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center in New York City, Boston Symphony Hall, and Carnegie Hall among others. She has been a soloist with several orchestras including the Rivers Symphony Orchestra and the Brockton Symphony Orchestra (both in Massachusetts). Having been featured on WCRB and on NPR’s From the Top at Jordan Hall, Katherine was also invited to perform at the “Lato z Chopinem” festival in Poland, and was one of 14 young pianists selected to participate in the 2019 Junior Cliburn Festival. Katherine is a recipient of the Chopin Foundation Scholarship Program and a winner in Classical Music at the 2020 YoungArts national competition.

Katherine has worked with many great international pianists and musicians such as Alexander Ghindin, Sean Chen, Valery Kuleshov, Wha Kyung Byun, Christopher O’Riley and Maestro Ruth Reinhardt. Katherine currently studies with HaeSun Paik at the New England Conservatory. In her free time, she loves to read, swim, bake and explore the art of mathematics.
