Catherine Huang is from San Jose, California and studies with Hans Boepple. She won first prize and the Special Award for the most outstanding performance of a work by a Russian composer at the 2019 Bösendorfer and Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition, first prize and Young Jury Award at the 2017 Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition (South Carolina), and first prizes at the 2018 Lee University International and 2016 International Institute for Young Musicians Competitions. She was an alternate competitor for the 2019 Cliburn International Junior Competition and a top prizewinner at the Blount-Slawson Young Artists, San Jose International Piano, and Los Angeles Young Musicians International Competitions. Catherine is a 2019 YoungArts Finalist in Classical Music and attended National YoungArts Week in Miami where she received the Gold Award. She is also the state winner and a national finalist (didn’t compete due to conflict) of the 2018-2019 MTNA Senior Performance Competition, first place winner of the 2013 and 2016 MTAC State Concerto Competitions, and first place winner of the Celia Mendez Young Pianists Beethoven Competition, Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition, and Pacific Musical Society Competition.

Catherine has performed solo recitals in her current five-year tenure with the prestigious Young Artist Guild of the Music Teachers’ Association of California. She soloed with the South Carolina Philharmonic, California Youth Symphony, Peninsula Symphony, and El Camino Youth Symphony. She attended the Aspen Music Festival and School, Southeastern Piano Festival, Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, and the John Perry Academy Summer Festival among others.

Catherine organizes and regularly performs at senior centers as Vice President of her school’s Music for Community club. In November 2018, she organized and performed with a group of young musicians in a benefit concert that raised over $4,000 to aid victims of the California wildfires.
