Hyeonuk Park

Born in South Korea, Hyeonuk began studying piano at the age of four. Notable awards to date include winning first prize at age seven at the 2012 National Music Contests with the Daegu Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he made his orchestral debut, and three first prizes at the National Student Music Competition in Korea in 2013. In 2015, he gave his first solo recital in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he earned the Grand Prix at the St. Petersburg International Young Art Premium Competition at age 10. He has also received numerous other prizes in South Korea, where he was a student at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted Arts.

Since moving to the United States in 2016, Hyeonuk has performed on NPR’s From the Top as a member of Trio Giocoso, and appeared in special From the Top performances including a holiday recording with the Canadian Brass Quintet in 2017. He won first place in the NEC Prep Concerto Competition in 2017, and in 2018 soloed with the NEC Prep Youth Repertory Orchestra at Jordan Hall. In 2019, he won second prize at the ninth West Virginia International Piano Competition and Festival, and second prize at the sixth Alfred University MostArts Festival Young Pianist Competition. He was selected as a recipient of the Chopin Foundation’s United States scholarship. Hyeonuk won first place in the Juillard Pre-College Concerto Competition and had a concert with the Juilliard Youth Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center in February.

Hyeonuk is attending the Baker School in Brookline, Massachusetts. At the NEC Preparatory School, he studied with Wha Kyung Byun. He is currently in the Juilliard Pre-College Division, where he studies with Hung-Kuan Chen and Tema Blackstone. When not playing the piano, Hyeonuk enjoys watching movies, reading books, swimming and Taekwondo.
